Matt's back at Shukers Land Rover after 12 years

One of the most experienced Land Rover sales specialists in Shropshire and Herefordshire has made a welcome return to the dealership where he gained much of his early knowledge of the brand.

“It’s good to be back,” said Matt Smout who has re-joined Shukers Land Rover at Ludlow.

It was in April 1994 – six years after first entering the motor trade – that Matt arrived at Shukers Land Rover where he was to spend the next five years improving his knowledge and expertise and becoming a key member of the sales team.

His Land Rover sales career has spanned 20 years and he reflected on the many changes that have taken place in that time.

“In my earlier years we only had the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender to sell,” said Matt, 44. “Now we not only have those updated models, but Range Rover Sport and Freelander as well and we will shortly have the brand new Evoque which everyone is looking forward to being launched in September.

“And Land Rover’s class leading technology of today is a million miles away from when I first experienced the brand in 1990.”

Of his return to Shukers Land Rover at Ludlow, he added: “It’s a nice feeling and I am looking forward to the challenges in the future.”

Sales manager Mark Clarke is one of five members of staff – the others are Mick Richardson, Gary Adams, Phil Andrews and Nick Apperley – who were at the Lingen Road dealership when Matt was a previous colleague 12 years’ ago.

Said Mark: “He knows the product like the back of his hand and is therefore able to hit the ground running. He strengthens the team in readiness for new challenges that lie ahead – not least the launch of the Evoque.”

Matt’s first event will be Brampton Bryan Point-to-Point – the first time Shukers Land Rover has sponsored the competition - where he is looking forward to meeting old and new customers.

A resident of Tenbury, he is married with two children, Oliver, 7, and Annabel, 2, and runs a 1981 Land Rover Series 3. He is a member of the All Wheel Drive Club as well as Tenbury Round Table.
