Builder Colin Chapman found his weekend in the spectacular surroundings of Eastnor Castle to be ‘really enjoyable and different’.

At the invitation of Shukers Land Rover and Dinmore Leisure, Colin took his Discovery 2 and Bailey four berth caravan to last weekend’s event which included a number of attractions.

Colin and his wife were among a group of over 25 invited to enjoy on and off road driving as well as a ticket to the castle and a steam rally.

Land Rover, who have the castle as a global experience centre, provided an hour’s off road driving in four vehicles, Freelander 2, Discovery 4, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

They also laid on a half hour road route which enabled the visitors to drive any two of the four models.

Said Colin, who is a builder in Ludlow: “It was very instructive and great fun, particularly the off road route. I managed to balance the Freelander on two wheels which for me was one of the highlights.”

He was also ‘highly impressed’ with his first demonstration of tow assist and hitch assist technology with its cameras and programming of information into the vehicle.

Said Mark Clarke, Shukers Land Rover sales manager at their Ludlow dealership: “This was the first joint weekend for Shukers and Dinmore Leisure and we shall be looking to repeat the event next year.

“We came up with the idea and put it together in less than two months so we hope to attract more customers of the two companies with an even bigger joint event in 2011.”

Gavin Williams, general manager of Dinmore Leisure, said it was a ‘thank you’ to customers for their loyalty. “We wanted to treat a select number of people with the opportunity to spend an enjoyable weekend at a venue they might not normally have the chance to visit. The feedback from our visitors has been most positive.”
