Shukers employees cycle to work

An innovative cycle to work scheme has been launched by a Shuker's Shrewsbury dealership.

The first three members of staff to cycle rather than drive to work at Shukers Land Rover are all technicians.

Scott Thomas, 21, is daily cycling 7.1 miles from his home at Cross Houses to the dealership in Battlefield Road, Shrewsbury.

Alan Gough, 26, cycles 6.5 miles from Bayston Hill and the third member of the trio, Andrew Smith, 29, has a one mile cycle ride from Sundorne.

They are all enjoying the experience. Said Alan: “We are not only saving money on fuel, but improving our fitness which is a bonus.”

The cycle to work scheme has been introduced by managing director Vernon Hogg. He said today: “Shukers Land Rover is keen to encourage a healthier workforce by supporting the government’s green transport plan.

“This is not only designed to reduce environmental pollution, but for employees to make significant savings on a bike and safety accessories.

“The scheme allows Shukers to lease cycles, safety equipment and accessories such as lights, locks, panniers and helmets. It is a tax free benefit to all employees and I am confident more members of staff will shortly take up the offer.”

He added that employees have the option to purchase their bike for a nominal fee at the end of the three year lease period.
